Dell to launch mini notebook Thursady

Dell Inc is set to announce a new mini notebook on Thursday dubbed the Inspiron Mini 9, a source familiar with the company's plan said as reported by media reports.

The unveiling of the new Dell model is part of an announcement with partner Box.net, which will provide online services like photo and document storage that will "come preinstalled on the Dell Mini."

Exact specifications of the Dell netbook are mostly unknown. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the Inspiron Mini 9 has a screen size under nine inches, and runs either Microsoft Windows or Linux operating system software.

The Dell "mini" would be a low-priced computer, to be sold for under 400 U.S. dollars and will be put it into competition with the Eee PC from Asustek Computer and other rivals in Taiwan and Japan.

Dell had originally scheduled its notebook for a June or July launch, but chose to delay to finalize manufacturing processes.
